BORNACOOLA DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION
The Bornacoola Community Development Association was set up in 1990. Its main aim originally was the development of a much needed Community Centre for the parish. This aim was achieved successfully and since then the Centre has become a true centre for parish activity, with a very busy weekly programme. It is used by all ages and groups in the parish – Mother and Toddler Group, Youth Club, Senior Citizens Club, Drama Society, GAA, Scor, IFA, with weekly classes in Irish Dancing, Speech and Drama, Keep Fit and Karate.
Recently the Centre held what was probably its most high profile show to date. This was a production titled ‘Riain’ by the world acclaimed Fabulous Beast Dance Company, in collaboration with musician Liam O Maonlai formerly of ‘Hothouse Flowers’ fame. The night was proclaimed a brilliant success for the company’s owner and choreographer, local native Michael Keegan-Dolan by a delighted full-house.
The Lough Rynn Harvest Festival has become the main Fundraiser for the Association. Its success has enabled the Association maintain and upkeep the Community Centre to a high standard, while also helping financially other parish organisations.
The committee wish to thank all the many people, organisations and businesses, both from within and outside the parish, who have supported them in their work throughout the years. Without this generous help, their work would not have been possible.
